The History of Shepherd’s Huts

Shepherd's Hut by Furniture for Life set in woodland in stunning
countryside.

Shepherd's Huts were originally used by shepherds in England and Wales, to live in during lambing season, allowing them to be close to and keep a watchful eye over their flocks.

Traditionally shepherd's huts would simply have had a bed, a wood burning stove and a medicine cabinet. Today Shepherd's Huts of Yorkshire make fantastic home offices, artist's studios, children's playrooms, teenage bedrooms, fishing huts or simply quiet hideaways. They look at home in an urban garden as well as in the heart of the countryside, by the side of a lake or in woodlands. Furthermore, because they are on wheels they don't require any planning permission.
